DM-AELON AND DM-PHYOS-SE RELEASED

It's been pretty quiet around here... anyway, today I released two maps, DM-Aelon and DM-Phyos-SE.

The first is a tight Duel map set in an old Nali Mine, the second is the Second Edition of my DM-Phyos. I am very satisfied of how both maps turned out, although I hadn't got much time for public testing. Aelon is definitely my best-looking map to date, and its gameplay isn't shabby either. Phyos-SE is a good improvement over the first version, it plays much better now and the visuals have been polished as well.

(funny though that the Phyos-SE shots have been taken more or less from the same spots as the ones from Phyos, it wasn't voluntary but it's just me pretty much sucking at finding good screenshot places...)

On a related note, I was very pleased when I went to Filefront to upload the two new maps and I saw that half of my old files had been wiped out. This means that pretty much all my other UT 3 maps can't be downloaded from there anymore (Aelon and Phyos-SE are there, of course, and all the old UT maps are safe having been uploaded on Beyondunreal Fileworks). I will have to reupload them again and go through all my old forum posts to change all the links, very exciting! Unfortunately I don't have enough bandwidth to provide links directly from here (and if I had the download speed would probably be very low), I will however try to upload the files on more sites (I think I will try Mediafire, seems pretty decent and doesn't have wait lines...) so at least I won't get so many dead links at once.

On another semi-related note, I started working on another new website design. Right now the site is pretty ugly, and it's not very pleasant to navigate through. I will especially rework the Maps page, but the whole site will get a pretty heavy overhaul. Of course I have no idea of when that will be finished, although knowing myself I can say that an estimate date is "nowhere near soon".






DM-PHYOS RELEASED

I've just released another map - DM-Phyos for Unreal Tournament 3.

Rather than creating the usual frantic Duel map I've tried to do something new for once - so I tried to use KActors, dynamic objects that can be pushed around and destroyed (creating a dynamic map). While I placed lots of destructible objects (845 to be exact), I also tried to create a layout that would still be fun to play after everything was destroyed.

I also tried to optimize it as much as I could - even without a Physix card it runs fine on my poor PC (I had to sacrifice some lighting effects to achieve a good performance, but I think that it was worth it).

The map can be played with loads of different playercounts, depending on how much chaos you want, but I think that it plays best with 4 to 8 players. Just don't expect a map fine tuned for competitive TDM play.

HARDCORE OLD-SCHOOL LOW POLY MAPPACK 2 RELEASED

Today the HOLP 2 for Unreal Tournament 3 has been released. It contains 9 high quality maps (5 DMs and four CTFs) focused on gameplay. They're optimized for online competitive play.

I contributed to this pack with my DM-Bonescraper.

On a side note, someone may have noticed that I finally added page 17 (Triggers) of my UnrealEd 2 Mapping Basics tutorial. I also merged all the 18 pages in one if someone wanted to save the tutorial for offline use. I plan on expanding the tutorial a bit when I will find some time.

Finally I released my latest map, DM-Arise.

It's a frantic Duel map for Unreal Tournament 3. It has been created for the 3DBuzz Old School Unreal Contest.

CBP 3 VOL. 1 RELEASED

Today the Community Bonus Pack 3 Volume 1 for Unreal Tournament 3 has been released. It contains 8 high quality maps (5 DMs, 1 CTF, 1 VCTF and 1 WAR).

I contributed to this pack with some beta testing.

NEW WEBSITE

As you probably noticed, I updated my website to a better design.

Now the site is a bit more pleasing to look at, the content is spread on the whole page rather than the previous fixed 800 pixels of width, the text is smaller and clearer to read and the files are no more in the same folder.

As far as content is concerned, I'll update the tutorial section when I find some time.

I just uploaded the beta version (0.85, to be exact) of my latest map, DM-Winged. It's a UT3 DM map suitable for Duels and TDM. It's the remake of my DM-LP-Winged for UT GotY.

I just updated my WIP section with some shots of my newest map, DM-Winged. Lately I had a bit of mapper's block with it, but now progress is going steadily and a public beta should be out soon.

The UnrealEd 2.0 Mapping Basics tutorial series is almost finished (I just need to translate the last two pages, Movers and Triggers). The rest of tutorials will be uploaded when I find some time to finish them (between school and RL stuff time is a rare and precious item in this period).

On a side note, I'm working on a new design for the website. I'm creating better menus, updating the structure of the website and changing the ideal format to 1024x768 rather than the current 800x600 (which is a bit outdated nowadays).
